World Hepatitis Day observed in Phek

National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP) Phek has observed World Hepatitis Day on July 26 under the theme “It’s Time for action” at Friday Weekly Bazaar, Phek Town.

PHEK, JULY 16 (MExN): The National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP) Phek has observed World Hepatitis Day under the theme “It’s Time for action” at Friday Weekly Bazaar, Phek Town on July 26.   World Hepatitis Day is a significant global Health awareness day which aims to raise awareness, educate the community and foster discussions on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis.

Dr Ngopelo Keviechu, Nodal Officer, NVHCP, DH Phek in his short speech highlighted that services for Viral Hepatitis Program are available free of cost in government hospitals which include free testing, free viral load and free treatment. He informed that every pregnant woman should get herself tested for Hepatitis- B during pregnancy. Every Hepatitis B positive pregnant woman should deliver in a hospital and every baby born to a hepatitis B positive mother should receive HBIG within 24 hours of birth to prevent from developing chronic Hepatitis when the child grows up. Hepatitis can be transmitted through unsafe blood and blood products, unsafe injections etc, he stated. 

Lap Technician, Rukuvezo Venuh shared on how to go about with lap-testing and Anuri Nienu, Mentor, Tuneup Academy presented a song dedicating to all Hepatitis patients. The programme was chaired by Kuduvo Kezo DPO DAPCU. The program was attended by the staff of various vertical programs, Doctors from DH etc.
