World Toilet Day observed in Dimapur

Dimapur, November 19 (MExN): Along with the rest of the world, World Toilet Day was observed at New Showuba Village, Niuland with women members, youths and village leaders on November 19.

According to a press release from the IEC Consultant, PHE Rural, Dimapur Vibou Seyie, dwelling on the theme ‘Valuing Toilets,’ the District Coordinator, DWSM, PHED (Rural)division, Dimapur, Imojungla Longkumer highlighted the importance of sanitation and hygiene as the driving force towards health, gender equality, education, economic development and environmental protection. She also urged the community to ensure proper functioning of toilets and Community Sanitary Complexes (CSCs).

An online essay competition was also held from November 15-18, on the topic ‘The reason why I should value toilets,’ and the result was announced during Friday’s programme, the release stated. 

From amongst 15 entries, the first prize went to Alisha from Molvom village, under Medziphema block while the second position was bagged by Suhani Jigdung of Ganeshnagar, Dhansiripar block and Ato Katty from Luhezhe village under Kuhuboto block stood third. The cash prizes and certificates were given away by Executive Engineer, PHED (Urban) division Bendangtola Walling at the office premise.

Earlier each block carried out cleanliness drives in CSCs, Anganwadi Centres, and Schools in selected villages, the release stated.
