WSH raises concern on influx of illegal immigrants

Dimapur, August 3 (MExN): While appreciating the Nagaland state government for stepping up its vigil along the highways and entry points, the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has demanded that Dimapur district should be brought under the purview of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) with strict enforcement in letter and spirit without any further delay.   Western Sumi Hoho, General Secretary, Vikato K. Achumi in a press statement said that check posts at various stretches should be set-up with adequate police personnel in the border areas of the state. The ILP gate should be brought back to the earlier New Field check gate and the Dillai gate, it stated.

“The hoho desires that a similar exercise of the National Registration of Citizens (NRC) conducted in Assam should be carried in the state of Nagaland as the influx of outsiders has reached an alarming proportion posing a very serious risk for our small indigenous population,” WSH expressed in the statement.

It pointed out that “the plain areas of Dimapur have been swarmed with the influx of illegal immigrants. The government of the day must take some steps further to curb this issue which has been troubling the Naga public for a long time. A proper co-ordination and an appropriate mechanism have become very necessary to address this serious issue.”

While stating that the issue of illegal immigrants is a complex issue and the government cannot do alone without the help of the civil societies and the public and vice-versa, the hoho added, “A time has reached where the government, every Naga tribal hohos and the people join hands and fight this menace of illegal immigrants.”

Meanwhile, the Western Sumi Hoho has asked the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) and the Western Sumi Students Union (WSSU) to remain alert and keep vigilant on the influx of illegal immigrants at every area and villages.

The Nagas need a similar movement like the Ao Students' Conference (AKM) Survival Mokokchung 2017 to "free ourselves from the influx of the illegal immigrants," it added, lauding AKM's farsightedness.

Further, the hoho cautioned on the "detestable act of recruiting non-Nagas by some NPGs into their folds arming them with weapons which is jeopardizing integrity and sanctity of the Naga Movement."
