To preserve & promote rich culture and tradition
Dimapur, November 25 (MExN): Western Sumi Youth Front organised the 1st Inter Area Cultural Competition at Niuland Town on November 24.
The cultural event saw thousand Sumis clad in colourful traditional attires and costumes participated in the competition, stated a press release from DIPR.
Speaking as special guest during the morning session, Advisor for Skill development, Labour and Employment and CAWD, Kazheto Kinimi dwelled on the importance of preserving and promoting the rich culture and traditions of the Sumis.
He lauded the WSYF for taking the initiative towards this end by organizing the 1st Inter Area Cultural Competition. Kinimi also urged the Sumis to communicate in the vernacular language so that it may be preserved.
He further advised the Youth to avail different training programmes offered by the Government and acquire skills.
Emphasizing on the important role of Youth in society's progress, the Advisor urged upon them to take the community forward.
WSYF President, head GB, Mughavi Awomi in his presidential address stated that the main objective of organizing the event was to revive the cultural and traditional practices of the Sumi tribe. The inaugural programme was followed by cultural competitions participated by youths from Dimapur, East Dimapur, Niuland, Aghunaqa, Sakipheto, Ato, Kuhuboto, Laghilato and Khaghaboto.
In the "Aphilokuwo" category, Kuhuboto bagged the first prize while Dimapur and Aghunaqa bagged the second prize.
Nuiland bagged the first prize in "Thighale" while Kuhuboto was declared second.
Sakipheto and Aghunaqa bagged the first and second prizes respectively for "Ami kukula".
In the "Pux" Kuxu, category, Ato bagged the first prize while Laghilato bagged the second prize. Aghunaqa and Khaghaboto were declared the first and second in "Itsa Kuxu" while East Dimapur and Dimapur won the first and second prizes respectively in "Atuna Pukuxuni". In "Angu Eno Azuta Mula Kuxu" Kuhuboto and East Dimapur bagged the first and second position respectively.
In the evening session, Sr Treasury officer Dimapur, Khekaho Aye graced the event as the guest of honour. Maintaining that Nagas have rich and diverse cultural heritage, Khekaho encouraged the gathering to preserve and pass on to the younger generations for posterity.
