The Wokha Town Council (WTC) has stepped up its civic efforts to improve cleanliness and pedestrian access in Wokha town, undertaking a social work drive along the stretch from Wokha Police Point to PWD Junction on October 1.

The initiative focused on restoring pedestrian footpaths, clearing encroachments, removing obstructions and cleaning clogged drains to improve movement and accessibility for the public.

WTC Chairperson W Myingthungo Kikon said the drive was part of the council’s ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness and bring greater order to the town. He stressed that such efforts could only achieve lasting results with active cooperation from the public.

Kikon appealed to citizens to avoid encroaching on public spaces, dumping waste indiscriminately and creating obstructions along roads and footpaths.

Addressing concerns over the deteriorating condition of roads and potholes along the NH-2 stretch passing through Wokha town, Kikon said the council had raised the issue with the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha. He informed that discussions had also been held regarding repair and maintenance works with the concerned contractor.

According to Kikon, road repair activities have been affected by the prolonged rainy season. He, however, expressed hope that the necessary works would resume once weather conditions improve.

Additional Deputy Commissioner and WTC Executive Officer Renbomo Ezung, along with council members, labourers and machinery operators, participated in and supervised the drive.

The WTC said it would continue such civic initiatives with the objective of making Wokha cleaner, safer and more accessible for pedestrians.
