Mokokchung, April 16 (MExN): The Yajang village on April 15 handed over a ‘Christian Heritage Site’ to Molungkimong.
The plot of land on the banks of Tsürang River is reportedly the site where Dr E W Clark spent the night on his first trip to the Naga Hills on December 17, 1872.
“The perilous night was spent under the vigilance of 60 distinguished warriors of Molungkimong against ferocious animals and possible enemy attack. Since then, this particular plot of land has been preserved as heritage site relating to the advent of Christianity in Nagaland. This heritage site is located in the ‘Gospel Path’ that runs from Sibsagar to Molungkimong,” a press release received on April 16 informed.
A programme was held at the site during which Yajang Mademsanger Potu Tatar, I Akok, said that, in response to the request of Molungkimong, Yajang is handing over the plot of land. He added that it is the first fruit of the seed of reconciliation between Molungkimong and Yajang on June 7, 2019. Another Tatar of Yajang Mademsanger Potu, Imna said that the bond of relationship made between Molungkimong and Yajang will stand firm.
Chairman of Molungkimong village Council, Y Imsu Tzüdir said that Molungkimong thankfully accepts the plot of land given by Yajang wholeheartedly and added that this day will go down in history.
Rev Yapang planted a sapling on the boundary of the heritage site with prayer and invoked God’s blessing on both the villages.
The programme was attended by Church workers, village statesmen and elders of Molungkimong and Yajang.
