Shamator, June 3 (MExN): Appealing to address the grievances of Community Health Centre (CHC) Shamator, the Yimchungrü Baptist Borü Amukhungto (YBBA) wrote to the Principal Director, DoHFW expressing “hope that you would waste no time in taking the remedial steps in order to save the precious lives of the people.”
YBBA, Executive Secretary, SJ Akhum and Legal Consultant, L Chuba highlighted that the PHC Shamator was upgraded to a full-fledged CHC on May 7, 2014.
“Indeed the up-gradation was the joyful moment for the people and it was construed as a sign of health salvation after several decades of a total negligence. However, to our dismay the condition of the health centre remains the same till today with one occasional doctor, two nurses, one LHV nurse, one ICTC Counsellor and one technician,” the YBBA stated.
None of the facilities prescribed by the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) has been provided to the CHC Shamator. Moreover, with the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Central Ministry and the Gauhati High Court has also issued some mandatory guidelines and directives to be implemented at the District Hospitals, CHCs and PHCs in the State.
Terming the present condition of the CHC “much below average”, YBBA said that it is the only CHC established under the two administrative divisions of Shamator and Chessore under Tuensang district, and it caters to the over-all medical needs of at least fifty thousand populations.
Apart from CHC Shamator, the next health care centre is District Hospital Tuensang. It is practically not possible for the poor masses and in emergency cases due to several factors such as financial constraint, transportation and distance problems.
“The denial to an access to good health facilities has claimed many precious lives during the past few days. There are many ailing people whose health conditions are deteriorating because of the lack of medical facilities,” it stated.
According to the YBBA, the total negligence of the concerned department is ‘infringing the very heart and soul of the Constitution, that is, the right to life and good health.’ Therefore, it requested the DoHFW to provide the required manpower and essential drugs and facilities to the CHC in order to protect and save the precious lives of the people.
