Yearlong celebration to commemorate 75th Anniversary of World War II Battle of Kohima

Kohima, March 30 (MExN): The 75th Anniversary of the World War II Battle of Kohima (BoK) dubbed as the greatest battle of the war will be commemorated by a yearlong celebration throughout the year starting April 4, the day the battle started in 1944. 

The yearlong celebration, according to DIPR report, will kick start with an inaugural event on April 4 followed by events including scholarship award, capacity building training, BoK marathon, literary fest, film festival, vintage car rally, world war ii trail walk, cross cultural event, parade/military tattoo, music and food festival, air show and light & sound show, etc. spread throughout the year.

A meeting of the organizing committee of the yearlong event comprising of members from the State Government, Army and NGOs was held on March 30 under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy, IAS at the Chief Secretary’s conference hall. After detailed discussions the committee finalised the programme for the main inaugural event which is slated for April 4. The event will be held at RCEMPA Jotsoma and attended by delegates from Japan led by its ambassador to India, representatives from the United Kingdom, United States Army, family members of the veterans of the BoK, Naga veterans of WW II besides officials of the State government, Assam Rifles, Students and public from nearby villages.

The programme will include speeches from the visiting dignitaries, Naga cultural presentations and flagging in of the BoK Motor cycle rally, organised by Assam Rifles and flagged off from Kohima today March 30.
