It was on the 13th of October 2005, when our attention was drawn by the word of Chairman DMC Vikheho Awomi ordering the DMC workers to supervise the market (super market) till 8:00 pm. it was true that Dimapur being the only cosmopolitan city of Nagaland is the nerve centre of any development, be it political or social in nature. Keeping in mind the sensitivity of a cosmopolitan city, the DMC team left no stone unturned in their effort to bringing positive changes which is also a desire of every denizens of Dimapur.
This can be made possible by the team of young and energetic DMC members led by its Chairman, whose vision is clear and stands tall for the welfare of Dimapurians. Therefore, we felt ungrateful in our part if we are to conceal the good works of responsible people; rather it becomes an obligation in our heart to spell out some of the commendable works carried out by them within a short period of time. Few among many of their achievements with much difficulty were:
1. The shifting of footpath, road side vendors to super market area with much pain. Much pain because their approach was very human one as road side vendors were mostly Naga mothers who came from far flung areas for a penny few.
2. Taking up task of traffic regulation to solve traffic congestion. Here again the task is not an easy one as we are all aware of our driving and parking style.
3. Shifting the entire road side vendors from new market to super market area and deploying its members and workers till dark to ascertain peaceful atmosphere. To make this possible the DMC is undertaking an earth-filling on the war footing on the pitches left unattended for many decades so as to make space for a Daily Market Business.
4. Converting Wednesday market in super market into a daily market, plans to bring up standard and hygienic slaughter house, shifting of taxi stand from over crowded main town area to elsewhere, alertness among DMC members in responding to the grievances of the consumers and many more.
Much was done but much more is yet to be accomplished. It is clear that the DMC members are rendering selfless service to meet the needs of the general public and to make life in Dimapur a more pleasant one. It is our duty as a faithful citizen of Dimapur that we support, encourage and pray for the DMC who still have a mounting task ahead of them to make Dimapur a pride of our state.
