‘Younger generation adopt the behaviour of leaders’

Kohima, November 20 (DIPR): A workshop titled ‘Role of community, church and family towards addiction’ was organised by the Nagaland Operation Dawn (Rehab Centre) and Truth Triumph Mission, Chozuba (Drop in Centre), on November 8 last at Chozuba town.

Additional District & Sessions Judge, Veprasa Nyekha, graced the programme as the guest of honour and delivered a message on the topic ‘Peaceful co-existence, law and order and quality education’. Stressing on the issue of drug abuse, alcoholism, murder and deceit in our society, he questioned as to what leads to these problems. The younger generation is looking at their leaders and adopt the same behaviour, he added. He said that the elders would first have to check themselves and change to control the younger generation and divert their behaviour towards social development. He called on the leaders to truthfully teach and discipline the community without any bias to ensure justice to all, and asked the public to be vigilant against people who were extracting numerous medicinal resources and valuable goods without proper license, which, he cautioned, needs immediate attention in order to save our resources.

Rev. Dr. Phuveyi Dozo gave a discourse on the topic ‘Church’s role towards addiction and total healing in Jesus Christ’. He said that many treatment therapies have been adopted to help addicts, such as imprisonment, drug substitution, etc., but were not successful to treat addition. However, when Christian agencies started to involve in helping drug addicts, it was observed that more and more drug users were treated and had become useful individuals in the society.

Boshi Vamuzo, a former drug user spoke on ‘Community and family role towards addiction’. The programme was led by Vekudu Lohe, Programme Director of NOD, who also gave the welcome and keynote address. The invocation was led by Pastor Suthozu Veswurayi, while benediction was pronounced by Pastor of Baptist Church, Phughi Katsoyi Sapu. The workshop was attended by Pastors, Village Council chairmen, public leaders, women leaders, youth and student leaders.
