Kohima, Feb 28 (MExN): Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, I. Imkong today stated that youth are the strength and pillars of a society besides being the present and future leaders.
Exhorting Congress youth during the Rajiv Gandhi Leadership Training Camp organized by the Nagaland Youth Congress at Congress Bhavan today, the veteran politician said youth have more responsibilities and they should not shirk from their responsibilities but should move ahead with the vision of Rajiv Gandhi. Stating that today the world is faced by three enemies, viz Global Warming, World Terrorism and HIV/AIDS, Imkong said that HIV/AIDS is a major danger for the present as well as future generation as it would wipe of the whole generation if preventive measures are not taken. He asked the youth to take advantage of the facilities present in the state for preventive measures and also create awareness amongst the youth of the dreaded disease. Further, he said that the Congress leaders at the Centre had made many revolutionary changes so that India could move ahead with the rest of the world. Moreover, in order to make a transparent and a corruption free government, the Congress led UPA Government has established the Right to Information Act 2005, which he said grants every citizen the right to get any information from any Government department. He also maintained that the youth should know all such rights granted by the Constitution so that they could help in the running of the government without corruption. Besides, he also encouraged the youth stating that instead of Government jobs there are ample scope of employment in the tourism, handloom handicraft and development of natural resources & minerals in Nagaland. Pradyut Yuvraj, Prince of Tripura, Convener of North East Congress Committee and member of AICC in his speech said that the objective of the camp is that “We want the youth to get more involved in social activities and also know the rights granted by the Constitution.” He also reiterated that Congress is the only National Party, which gave ample scope and platform to the youth.
Besides, he is also maintained that Nagaland is known in the map of India because of the people and the youth as they struggled and managed to preserve their identity. MLA Takamasa Ao in his speech while giving an overview of the problems faced by the youth of the State said that the thinking and approach of the people towards our youth should be changed. He said that the youth are not a problem but source and force for development for the future. “Youth are leaders of today as well as tomorrow, and they are not a demographic burden but a gift of demography,” he said adding that youth development should be considered as a strategic capital investment for future.
Considering youth as trusted partners for development, the young politician stated that youth should be able to say no to corruption in our society. “It is the time for us to rededicate ourselves in line with the sacrifices made by Rajiv Gandhi, the youngest Prime Minister heading the largest democracy,” said MLA Medokul Sophie, general secretary NPCC. He also called upon the youths to remember Rajiv Gandhi and be Rajiv in our own villages and constituencies and work not only for the Congress youth but also for the development of the our village in general.
The programme chaired by Kughato S. Aye, general secretary NYC started with the invocation prayer of Ketovilie, Asst. Pastor CRC Para Medical. Prasilie Pienyü, president NYC delivered the presidential address while Wabangla Imsong enthralled the gathering of more then 500 youths from almost all the districts with a special number. Henilo Thong, general secretary NYC tendered the vote of thanks.
