Youth arrested in Mon for assault

One youth was arrested in Mon today on charges of assault and extortion. The Mon police told The Morung Express that the youth (in his 30s) was apprehended by the locals after he allegedly assaulted the administrator of a school on June 8. 

As per the preliminary inquiry, the police said that the youth had demanded money from the victim. The demand was declined resulting in the assault. “He asked money from the victim. He got aggressive after he was refused, hitting the victim with a flower vase,” informed the Mon police. 

People in the vicinity intervened hearing the commotion and apprehended the youth. According to the police, the youth has a history of drug abuse and had also harassed the victim with monetary demands on several occasions in the past. 
He was booked under IPC sections 447, 506, 325 and 384 with the police adding that a toy pistol was also recovered from his possession. 

Meanwhile, organizations in Mon issued a statement condemning the incident. In a joint statement, the Mon Village Students’ Union; Mon Union, Mon Town and Mon Village Students’ Union, Mon Town demanded that “befitting punishment” be awarded on the culprit, who was identified as Phuhshai. 

It asserted that such “criminal activities” should not be repeated in under its jurisdiction in future.
