Wokha, April 11 (MExN): A group of around 50 young people embarked on a trek to Mt Tiyi in Wokha district to clean the area on April 10.

A press release from the organizers of the trek informed that Mt Tiyi, the highest peak in Wokha District, has been adversely affected by reckless human behaviour with a buildup of plastic and non biodegradable waste. The place is a hot sport for visitors especially during the blooming of the Rhododendron flowers.

“Wokha village and many individuals as well as organizations have been involved in tackling to stopping the illegal logging, plucking of wildflowers, and information has been disseminated to the  people who visit Mt Tiyi to take back the waste that was brought from home,” the press release stated.

It further informed that the Forest department, along with Wokha Village on September 3 and 4, 2020 took a quest to replenish the rapidly vanishing Rhododendron population at Mount Tiyi along with the neighbouring villages.

The organizers of trek said to the people that "your waste is your responsibility." They urged visitors not to pluck the endangered Rhododendron flower/trees.

Various individuals and students from Wokha Village, Niro Range, and Wokha Witter Theological College joined the cleanliness campaign drive at Mt Tiyi.
