‘Plant a tree, Plant a Hope for Future’

A tree plantation drive under the theme “Plant a tree, Plant a Hope for Future" initiated by YouthNet Nagaland in partnership with the state’s department of environment, forests and climate change was launched here today.

In formal launching ceremony held here this morning at ‘Made in Nagaland’ Expo Centre, Rongsenlemla Imchen, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Kohima said the department of environment, forests and climate change Nagaland is willing to collaborate with any agency/organizations with regard to environment conservation in the state.

She acknowledged YouthNet for spreading its wings on environment conservation and hoped that it would go a long way in building a bright future.

“The need for tree plantation has become even greater these days because of the growing pollution in the environment,” a concept note stated.

More and more trees must be planted if we really want to survive and lead a good life, the concept note stated, adding it is time “we recognize the importance of tree plantation and contribute our bit towards the same.”

Under the tree plantation initiative, tree saplings will be planted alongside the road from Nagaland Civil Secretariat at area up to Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Secretariat with an objective to uplift of living environment and help mitigate climate change.

In this initiative, 500 tree saplings will be provided by Department of Environment, Forests and Climate change.

YouthNet mobilizes participants for the drive. (Nagaland Career & Development Centre (NCDC)/ Nagaland Job Centre (NJC) and Skill Development trainees, Kohima, Students from TM Government Higher Secondary School & Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Govt. Higher Secondary School Seikhazou, D.Khel,  Kohima and YouthNet team).

YouthNet will also take the responsibility of maintaining and nurturing the saplings by incorporating it in its training modules as hands on experience for all the trainees.

Students from TM Government Higher Secondary School & Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Govt. Higher Secondary School Seikhazou, D Khel, Kohima as part of their Multi Skill Foundation Course (MSFC) will also be encouraged to maintain and nurture the saplings as part of their curriculum. 

This effort will be initiated once or twice every month.

This drive was supported by IT&C, State Institute of Rural Development, Home Department, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban Development Dept. Govt of Nagaland), Bambusa Express and Black Out.
