DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 11 (MExN): The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) has invited the Tikhir community leaders to the YTC office in Shamator town on December 15 at 10:00 am to work out the modalities “as per our customary law and practices” with regard to the matter on recognition of the Tikhir tribe. This comes after the State Government facilitated a meeting between the YTC and Tikhir community leaders on November 29 to discuss the matter on the recognition of Tikhir tribe. “Consequent upon the said meeting, the YTC held a public referendum on December 2 and 3 at Shamator and Pungro towns respectively,” a press release from the YTC informed. Therefore, “as endorsed and mandated by the general public for tribal status of Tikhir,” the YTC informed that it has “in good faith cordially” invited the Tikhir community for this meeting “in the interest of both the communities and to maintain permanent peace in the region.”
