The fourth edition of the Zunheboto Area Public Organisation (ZAPO) Biennial Conference was held at Lizu New Zunheboto under the theme “Envisioning Progress Through Unity” on November 21.
The programme was chaired by ZAPO Vice Presidents, Kakheho Yeputho and Arikato Arkha, followed by an opening prayer led by Toluto Chophy, Pastor of Lizu New Baptist Church.
In his welcome address, Akükatou Zhekiye Zhimo stressed the importance of having a strong constitution, stating that unity is essential for a successful organisation.
ZAPO President, Kakugha S Rotokha delivered the introductory and presidential address, setting the tone for the event.
A highlight of the programme was the Clean Village Award presented to Natha Old Village among the 17 villages under Zunheboto Town.
Delivering the exortation segment, Akükau Khekuto Zhimo, Chairman of Zunheboto Tokujo Kükami, reminded members that careful and steady decision-making helps build a stronger organisation. He noted that six organisations operate in the Zunheboto Area including the Zunheboto Tokujo Kükami Kuqhalulu, Zunheboto Area Public Organisation, Sumi Totimi Loka, Zunheboto Area Sports Association, Zunheboto Area Students Union, Zunheboto Area VDB Association and said collective decision-making is crucial. He encouraged members to uphold unity, honour the pioneers of Zunheboto, practise humility, promote good deeds, and carry forward positive messages while discarding negative ones.
A special number was presented by Sunon Zhimo, and the General Secretary’s report was delivered by Hekato Sema.
The theme speaker, Aheto Sumi of Lizu Aviqato, spoke on “Envisioning Progress Through Unity.”
He said unity must include every section of society, whether rich or poor, and that progress must be envisioned through education, awareness, and long-term planning.
Reflecting on Naga history, he highlighted key milestones including the 1929 memorandum to the Simon Commission, the formation of the NNC in 1946, the declaration of Naga independence in 1947, the 1951 plebiscite, the Naga People’s Convention in 1957, and the creation of the state of Nagaland following the 16-Point Agreement. He also referred to later developments such as the Shillong Accord, the formation of the NSCN in 1980, and the 1997 ceasefire.
He noted that many Nagas had hoped for a lasting solution and urged the community to remain united “not pessimistically, but realistically for a better tomorrow.”
Resolutions and New Office Bearers
The ZAPO Resolution-cum-Search Committee announced its resolutions along with the new office bearers for the coming tenure 2026-2029.
Kakugha S. Rotokha was reaffirmed as President, while Yesuho Kiba was appointed as General Secretary. The committee also recommended redrafting the ZAPO constitution.
Members were urged to address issues related to cattle loitering in the town, prioritise agricultural activities, and ensure proper registration during the 2026 Census of India by adding their names in their respective areas.
The announcements were made by Kikheto Muru, Convenor of the Committee-Convenient Search Committee.
