Zunheboto, August 21 (MExN): A one day sensitisation meeting cum anti-stigma and discrimination on COVID-19 was held at VDB Hall, Zunheboto and Satakha town on August 13 and 19 respectively.
Dr K Akaho Sema, Dy CMO, Zunheboto speaking as the resource person called upon all to be kind to each other and help stop the spread of Coronavirus. “We all have a role to play in protecting the physical and mental health of ourselves and others during the COVID-19 outbreak,” he said and added that the only weapon to fight this disease is by wearing mask, proper hand washing and social distancing.
He highlighted that the level of stigma associated with COVID-19 is based on three main factors: it is a disease that is new and for which there are still many unknowns; we are often afraid of the unknown; and it is easy to associate that fear with ‘others’. He also said, “it is understandable that there is confusion, anxiety, and fear among the public and seek public co-operation saying corona is here to stay with us and we've to learn to live with it.”
Shekho Sophie, District Media Officer, CMO office, Zunheboto in a press release stated that the meeting was attended by town GBs, Colony council chairman, secretaries in Zunheboto town while in Satakha it was attended by the Administration, GBs, STH, Student Union, Church Leaders and town council. TL Kiusumong Tikhir, ADC, Satakha chaired the meeting and Rev Kughato Chophy, Pastor, STBC invoke God's blessings.
