‘Nagaland Zeliang People Organization’ unites two groups of ZPOs
Dimapur, July 30 (MExN): The two groups of Zeliang People Organizations, one led by Ramdi Meru as President and Kiepeube Zehuny as General Secretary and other led by Kiezen Zeliang as President and Kerang Domta as General Secretary have amalgamated into a single organization under the banner of ‘Nagaland Zeliang People Organization (NZPO).’
Giving an account of the decision and process to bring unity within the Zeliang community in Nagaland, Dr Tumda Newme, convenor, Working Committee/Search Committee in a press release stated that a series of meetings were held with Zeme Council, Liangmai Council and senior leaders of the tribe led by the two MLAs of 6 Tening AC and 7 Peren AC, on June 26, July 11 and July 19.
Consequently, a general body meeting held on July 28 approved and adopted that the new team of office bearers with Kevipele Iheilung as President and Kingudi Joseph as General Secretary will led the single apex organization of the tribe as ‘Nagaland Zeliang People Organization’ (NZPO).
Dr Newme informed that the new team of office bearers was selected for a term of three years by 10 members Search Committee comprising of a member each from both groups of ZPO.
The committee appreciated the leadership of Ramdi Meru and Kiezen Zeliang for “showing positive ways for a single apex organization of the Zeliang tribe after so much confusion in the community for more than 10 years.”
The general meeting also resolved that NZPO should be one and only apex organization of the Zeliang tribe in Nagaland and any individual(s) defying the July 28 resolutions will be excommunicated from the community for 5 years and such person(s) will be barred from holding any posts in Zeliang organization for 10 years.
It therefore informed to all agencies, be it governmental or tribe bodies of Nagaland that sole representation of Zeliang community in Nagaland was NZPO.
