Mokokchung | October 21 : In a breathtakingly exciting match played between Zonipang SA and Kichutip SA at the ongoing XVII MDFA Trophy 2011, the boys from Longkhum edged past Kichutip by a solitary goal that was converted by Moa Imchen (Jersey No.13) off a spot-kick. Zonipang were awarded the penalty kick in the 14th minute of the first half of the game. This was the second quarter-final match of the tournament.
Zonipang dominated much of the first half with Kichutip hardly making any threatening attack but after the lemon break, the boys in red looked like a new team in play. Their passes were more accurate in the second half and it looked like it was only a matter of time before they find the equalizer. But they could not penetrate past the defensive wall of Zonipang SA and the score line remained unaltered when the long whistle went off.
Zonipang’s Meren (Jersey No.7) was cautioned in the 83rd minute of the game for aggressive play and just four minutes later, Inavi (also Jersey No.7) of Kichutip was also shown the yellow card.
This tournament is being regarded as one of the most successful MDFA tournaments in terms of crowd turn-out. MDFA tournament is also the best attended sporting event in the district. As the tourney progresses into the later stages, more and more spectators are expected to witness the beautiful game played in town.
