Dimapur, August 11 (MExN): The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) on Tuesday demanded an open apology to Zeliangrong people from Athuan Abonmai, President ZB (AMN) within 15 days from August 11 for “divisive and destructive politics” under his leadership.
In an open letter issued on August 11, ZUF Home Secretary, Ajonah Kamei said that Front was compelled to write to him for his repeated display of “treason and treacherous activities in the name of Zeliangrong.”
As the “vanguard of Zeliangrong people and defender of historical rights of the people,” the ZUF demanded that Abonmai withdraw his statements that appeared in local papers and social media and issue an open apology to the Zeliangrong people.
The letter is served as a caution due humanitarian consideration, it said.
The ZUF further accused the Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland – AMN) President of “trying to please and appease the Zeliangrong people” who it said, was “put to shame” by his “autocratic leadership.” It also claimed that President was “trying to please NNPGs.”
Further, it alleged that the ZB (AMN), under his leadership has “not only destroyed the credibility and reputation of the Zeliangrong but also debased and down trodden the hard earned and treasured historical rights of the people.”
It also alleged that in October 2019, Abonmai along with “absconded cadres” of ZUF led by Raitu Chawang and Sinthuingam Kamson, “dissolved” the ZUF “into the GPRN/NSCN as one entity.”
Terming it as a “fatal blow to the Zeliangrong people,” the ZUF questioned the credibility and validity of the Abonmai’s leadership.
Consequently, the decision taken during a consultation among Zeliangrong people on June 20 at Punglwa, “was detected and reprimanded by NSCN (U) and NNC Parent Body Zeliangrong Region was compelled to seek apology in local papers,” it said.
Further, the ZUF stated that the “Zeliangrong people and ZPC movement for securing their political rights to self-determination as envisioned and initiated by Ranima Gaidinliu is a different subject from the Naga National movement.”
“Our approach with the Government of India, much before the Nagas’ talk is a legitimate demand for Zeliangrong homeland to be upgraded into a state unlike the Indo-Naga political talk,” it said, while adding that the “ZPC movement shall remain even after the Indo-Naga settlement till our demand is fulfilled.”
As such, it asserted that the Zeliangrong people’s movement “shall not be allowed to be manipulated or tempered or compromised with,” it said.
In a rejoinder to the letter written to ZB-AMN seeking retention of RN Ravi as Interlocutor to the Indo-Talk, the ZUF said that it simply his “blatant policy and deceitful game.”
In this connection, the Front demanded that Abonmai issue “an open apology” to the Zeliangrong people within 15 days with effect from August 11, failing which he would “be held responsible for all consequential implication that may incur in the society and stringent action for your action will be initiated.”
