Zunheboto, August 31 (MExN): A one day sensitisation meeting-cum-anti stigma and discrimination on COVID-19 was held at Government High School, Akuluto on August 30.

Briefing the meeting, a press release stated here that Dr Nukshisangla Jamir, DPO (RCH & UIP) spoke on the importance of vaccination and elaborated that if we fail to vaccine our children in this pandemic, vaccine preventable diseases will be prevalent again in our society. “Children are our future generation and encourage everyone to be responsible and motivates to take vaccine on time,” she stated. 

The resource person, Dr K Akaho Sema, Dy CMO, Zunheboto, encouraged all to be kind to each other and help stop the spread of Coronavirus. “Let’s support our family, friends, neighbours and frontline responders in the fight against COVID-19. We all have a role to play in protecting the physical and mental health of ourselves and others during the COVID-19 outbreak,” he stated while adding that the only weapon to fight this disease is by wearing mask, proper hand washing and social distancing. 

He stressed that the level of stigma associated with COVID-19 is based on three main factors: it is a disease that is new and for which there are still many unknowns; we are often afraid of the unknown; and it is easy to associate that fear with ‘others’. He also said that it is understandable that there is confusion, anxiety, and fear among the public and seek public co-operation saying corona is here to stay with us and we've to learn to live with it. 

The meeting was attended by Administration, Police, GBs, STH, Student Union, Church Leaders and town council.
