Zunheboto, April 25 (MExN): The newly launched Zunheboto District Consumer Rights Organization (CRO) began its operation in the district with an inspection of shops in Zunheboto town on April 25.
Following rumors about another lockdown likely to be imposed, shopkeepers in the district are hiking the prices of all the grocery items all of a sudden, the CRO stated in its press release on Sunday.
The Zunheboto CRO team led by its president inspected shops in the town and also ensured that all the shops are following all necessary COVID-19 SOPs.
President CRO Zunheboto Anthony L Aye said that the CRO in Nagaland was formed in 2019 and on 15 March 15 this year, the Zunheboto CRO was launched in collaboration with the District Legal Service authority in presence of the Deputy commissioner Zunheboto.
The President informed that the inspection was carried out to ensure maintenance of all necessary COVID-19 safety protocols and to ensure that the shopkeepers are not hiking prices illegally or indulging in hoarding commodities.
The team has also initiated a surprise check on all the shops in the town and informed that strict action would be taken against defaulters who are not charging normal prices.
The team also assessed prices of commodities in order to keep a check on the hike later on. The team has also warned of disciplinary and legal action against the defaulters in this regard.
He further said that awareness programmes will be carried out in the coming days to enforce COVID-19 protocols in all the shops. Further, awareness and advisory is being given to the shopkeepers and those not following the same will be reported to the higher authorities for initiation of necessary action, he added.
