
DIMAPUR, MAY 11 (MExN): Concerned over environmental impact due to rampant hunting and fishing in Zunheboto, the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting held on May 10 decided to put a blanket ban on fishing for two months-June & July in Zunheboto district. On the issue of hunting, the steps to be undertaken were deferred to next DPDB meeting.
The DPDB meeting which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner & vice chairman, Rahul Bhanudas Mali discussed at length the issue on putting a ban on hunting and fishing as it destroys and disturbs the ecosystem, a DIPR report stated.
SDO Athrong added that various village councils has put forth an appeal to impose a complete ban on hunting and fishing and said that as the people are not aware of the wildlife protection act and its consequences and thereby hunting was carried out randomly. After deliberation, the board members agreed to ban fishing of all kinds for two months and for ban on hunting, it was deferred to next meeting.
At the meeting, the DC again reminded all the departments to submit all the central government schemes being implemented by various departments at the earliest before the Governor's visit scheduled during the last week of May. He also informed that Diksha meeting with the MP will be convened soon and so requested everyone to be in station.
The DC also suggested that it would be beneficial if a call center can be set up at Zunheboto so as to help the unemployed educated youths.
Priyanka from skill development ministry read out her report on various awareness programs to educate the public about various loans and schemes that can be availed by the public especially cultivators and also gave a report on various possible ways on where employment and revenues can be generated. The DC also informed that SBI has given an assurance for setting up of its banks at Pughoboto and Atoizu.
