Zunheboto, April 26 (MExN): World Malaria Day was observed in Zunheboto on April 25, 2026, under the theme “Drive to End Malaria: Now We Can, Now We Must,” with programmes conducted across all levels of health units in the district.
At the district headquarters, the main programme was held at the Conference Hall of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Zunheboto.
Addressing the gathering as the special guest, Dharam Raj, Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto, stressed the importance of maintaining hygiene at both the individual and community levels and urged all stakeholders to actively contribute towards the elimination of malaria and other vector-borne diseases in the district.
A presentation was delivered by Dr Esther Kath, District Programme Officer (CD-1), highlighting the status of malaria and other vector-borne diseases in the district, along with ongoing control and prevention measures.
The programme was chaired by Unice, District Education Officer, while the opening prayer was led by Shri Khekuto, Malaria Inspector. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mudosayi Huire, District VBD Consultant.
Following the event, a meeting of the District Task Force for Malaria Elimination was convened under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner to review strategies and strengthen coordinated efforts towards malaria elimination.
In the lead-up to the observance, the department carried out routine monitoring and supervision activities from April 20 to 24 in high malaria burden blocks, health units and villages. Key interventions included house-to-house visits, awareness campaigns and mass screening for malaria.
The district administration and health department also reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying efforts towards a malaria-free Zunheboto.
