Dimapur | July 5

The Food Corporation of India (FCI) Regional Office, Dimapur, today assured that it has enough food-grain stock to successfully implement the Prime Minister’s Food Security Scheme for the Poor-IV (PMGKAY-IV) scheme in Nagaland.

Under the PMGKAY–IV scheme, the central government allocated additional foodgrains for another five months (July to November) with the same terms and conditions of PMGKAY–III.

In a press conference with a section of the media on Monday, officials of FCI RO Dimapur led by general manager (R), K Tongsing and assistant GM (Co-ord), BS Solanki, informed that PMGKAY–III was launched by the Government of India earlier in April to alleviate the hardships faced by the poor and needy due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Under the programme, the central government allocated free food-gains at the scale of  5 kilo per person for two months (May and June 2021) to nearly 80 crore beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013. This allocation was over and above NFSA monthly foodgrains allocation, the FCI officials informed.

In Nagaland, FCI, the nodal agency for delivering food-grains to the states, in coordination with the state department of Food & Civil Supplies (F&CS), the allocation of foodgrains under PMGKAY –III, was successfully delivered, the officials said.

A total of 1,40,468.70 quintals of food-grains was released by FCI for May and June under PMGKAY–III.

The central government on June 24, 2021, announced additional allocation of free food-grains for another five months (July-November 2021). Further, the FCI officials informed that the allocated quota for the month of July has already been dispatched.

Joint director, F&CS, Temsu Jamir, who also attended the press conference, informed that distribution to beneficiaries for the month of July would likely start by July 8. Jamir also expressed optimism that the department would be able to complete lifting of food-grains for the month of August by July 15.
