Imphal Int’l to ‘Bir Tikendrajit International Airport’: Manipur Assembly passes resolution

The Manipur Legislative Assembly passed a resolution on Monday to rename Imphal International Airport as ‘Bir Tikendrajit International Airport’. The motion was moved by Leader of the house N Biren Singh. Opposition leader O. Ibobi Singh while supporting the motion, suggested the house to send the resolution adopted by the house  to the concerned authority at the earliest.

 

It can be mentioned here that the two-day assembly session began on Monday.

 

Meanwhile, responding to a calling attention motion raised by MLA Kh. Joykisan Singh on the death of  Ningthoujam Babysana,  Chief Minister (in-charge of Home) N. Biren Singh said that the death of Babysana is very unfortunate and has shocked everyone.

 

"To ascertain the truth, the government has put its best effort. As per the DoPT notice dated, 1.12.2018, State government cannot send directly to CBI for taking over the case," Biren replied. He also said that, to follow the norms for handing over the case to CBI, the State government wrote to DoPT and even sent Deputy Secretary (Home) personally to DoPT to submit the letter. The intention of the Government is very clear, added the Chief Minister.

 

 Leader of opposition, O. Ibobi Singh then suggested the Chief Minister to pursue to DoPT under PMO, while Joykisan demanded the paper be produce in Assembly if government has handed over the Babysansa case to CBI.

 

Responding to another calling attention motion raised by MLA, K Meghachandra Singh on the frequent seizure of contraband drugs and presence of illegal drug manufacturing plants in the state, the Chief Minister (in-charge of Home) N. Biren Singh said that to tackle the issue, as a matter of policy those arrested in connection with drugs be "punished publicly so that it may serve as deterrent and not indulge in drug trafficking in the future.

 

Meghachandra questioned as to why ADC chairman Lhukhosei  Zou was given bail after being charge sheeted and his whereabouts still unknown. He demanded that his case should be given to the CBI. While giving his clarification,  the Chief Minister said that the State government wrote a letter to CBI and Interpol for proclamation and there is no question of charge-sheet being withdrawn.

 

Later, N. Biren Singh laid The Manipur Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Rules, 2019 and the Annual Report of State Vigilance Commission for the year 2018-19 at the floor of the assembly. He also presented Committee reports of the tenth Report of the Business Advisory Committee, 2019 and  moved the house to agree with the allocation of time recommended by the Committee.

 

 Y. Surchandra Singh, Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts presented the Fifty- First Report on the Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General on India for the year ended 31st March, 2017 and Fifty- Second Report on Excess over Voted Grants and Charged Appropriations, 2016-2017.

 

K. Leishiyo, Chairman of the Committee on Public Undertakings presented the Fourteenth Report on the Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the year ended March 31, 2017. Kh. Joykisan Singh, presented the Eighteenth Report on Assurances of member of the committee.
