NPF Farmers’ Wing aspires to make Pughoboto meat production centre

Pughoboto, June 28 (MExN): Farmers’ Wing of NPF Pughoboto Division has highlighted the progress of the piggery project – 3 for all – in Pughoboto sub-division funded under Local Area Development Programme (LADP). In a report released to the media, the NPF Pughoboto Division Farmers’ Wing president, Hekuto Yeptho informed that through the project, 3 piglets were distributed to number of individuals in all the villages under Pughoboto sub-division for rearing and the NPF Pughoboto Farmers’ Wing has been supervising it.  

According to the report, in the calendar year of 2014-2015, a total of 234 piglets were distributed to 78 households in the entire 24 villages in Pughoboto under the project. In 2016-17, a total of 64 piglets were distributed to 32 households in 13 villages under the sub-division, it added.  

The piggery project, the report stated, has been enormously successful specifically in 10 villages – Ighanumi, Tukuliqa, Iphonumi, Ghathashi, Mukalimi, Awohumi, Hebolimi, SABAK Pughoboto, Asukiqa, and Tsaphimi.  

The report further said that the NPF Farmers’ Wing, Pughoboto Division convened a meeting on April 18, 2014 at the official residence of the Minister PWD (R&B) and deliberated to follow up on the piggery project and the members decided to conduct a seminar by inviting professionals from the Department of V&AH to train the project beneficiaries on pig rearing.  

Accordingly, seminar was conducted on June 2, 2017, June 9, 2017, June 22, 2017 and June 23, 2017 at KT Area, Asukiqa Area, Puhukito Area and Ghathashi Area respectively, it said. The resource persons for the seminar were Dr. Tekasangba (VAS), Toshitemjen (VFA) and Mhao Kiikon (VFA). The Farmers’ Wing termed the seminar a “grand success” with 75 % of the project beneficiaries participating besides the party chairman, village chairmen and others.  

The Farmers’ Wing, NPF Pughoboto Division concluded that after witnessing the positive response and progress of the piggery project it is further encouraged and is eager to do everything in its capacity to keep the project alive for the welfare of the farmers and to fulfil the vision of Minister PWD (R&B), the MLA of Pughoboto constituency, to make Pughoboto a Meat Production Centre in the near future.
