The driver of a van died on the spot while two others were seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling in slipped off the road and went down a steep gorge here today. The accident happened today at around 11:55 am near IOC Junction along NH 702D towards Yimyu Ward, Mokokchung. The vehicle, a Maruti Van rolled about 350 feet down the steep gorge.
According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Sashiwati Walling of Khensa village while the two injured were identified as Sashitemjen (40) of Mekuli village and Imtisowa (40) of Ungma village. The trio was headed towards Khensa village from Mokokchung town as per reports.
A case has been registered at Police Station-2, Mokokchung and further investigations on the cause of the accident are on.
