Jalukie, November 7 (MExN): The Jalukie Valley Youth Organisation (JVYO) on Saturday expressed serious concern over the alleged misuse and vandalism of the New Market Turf Ground, Jalukie and urged the government to expedite the pending construction work of the facility.

JVYO officials, led by its president, visited the ground on November 7 and observed “several disturbing activities indicating the misuse and vandalism of this public facility,” a statement issued by the organisation’s media cell said.

“It has come to our attention that certain individuals or groups have been using the ground for purposes other than its intended use. More seriously, some individuals have reportedly driven vehicles inside the ground by damaging the chain-linked fencing,” it said.

The organisation said burnt marks were noticed within the ground, with certain portions of the synthetic turf appearing to have been damaged by fire. The facility was also being used for partying and other social gatherings, it added. “Such irresponsible and uncivilised behaviour reflects a complete disregard for public property,” JVYO said.

As the “designated caretaker” of the ground, JVYO said it takes these matters very seriously. “An investigation is currently underway to identify those responsible for damaging and misusing this public property. Strict action will be initiated against anyone found involved in such activities,” it said.

JVYO appealed to all concerned citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any incidents of vandalism, misuse or other unauthorised activities inside the ground. It also issued a stern warning that any individual or group found engaging in such acts “shall face appropriate legal action in coordination with appropriate authorities.”

It further earnestly appealed to the government to expedite the remaining construction work and ensure the timely completion of the New Market Turf Ground, noting that the project has been left incomplete for several years with no significant progress.

Being the only synthetic turf football ground of standard size in Peren District, its completion would be a significant achievement for the sporting community, JVYO said.

“It would provide our young and aspiring footballers with a proper platform to develop their skills and pursue excellence in sports, particularly football. JVYO believes that this facility has immense potential to encourage and inspire the younger generation,” it added.
