10 EAC Posts- hot spot

•-Earlier when this ‘special recruitment drive’ was introduced by the Government, there were loads  of expressions, some were sounds of pure pleasure and gratitude, many confused and may have pinched themselves thinking, ‘is it really real? After all, onlyrecently, the percentage has increased from 33% to 37% and now extra bonus along with separate exam without the so-called ‘advanced’ ‘general’ wallas to compete. Others disappointed and apprehensive that this trend would reverse the conditions of the future generations. This writer has observed and commented along with many others that Government while championing the cause of ‘backwards’ ‘ less represented’ is intentionally/unintentionally discriminating the rest by infringing on their rights. The result would be divisions and distrusts amongst the whole tribes for no fault of theirs because, the 10 tribes selected by the Government did not demand nor were the remaining tribes more represented in the cadre by infringing on opportunity of less represented ones. And Lo! (Do not want to say ‘I told you so’!) You can see headlines ‘Cabinet rush to meet as students prepare shutdown’, ‘Govt appoints review committee…..’ student bodies protest…..’, ENSF declines……’ and so on…..Protest and disharmony reigns in Nagaland. A really hot spot to be in!
Now the step initiated by AKM,ASU,KSU and SKK is lauded by many because it is a movement against inequality and injustice, others may take it as communal issue. However, this issue has proven that it is very unjust to inflict on some rights in the name of uplifting others. ENSF has rightly declared that Eastern Nagas have no intention to take away the EAC posts meant for other Naga tribes of the state or any other privileges, the ENSF at the same time would not allow any privileges and posts meant for Eastern Nagas to be taken (bravo!). Instead of creating divisions within our family, whichisnot a minor issue, Govt.’s decision and policy should base on equal opportunity for all without discriminations. At the same time, pressure groups should stand firm on this issue and come out publicly so that every step taken does not victimize anyone nor bring divisions among our family. May justice prevail!
