Wokha, November 6 (MExN): The Lotha Hoho celebrated its centenary jubilee under the theme ‘chanting for the deliverance of century’s blessing’ on November 6. The event was graced by Y Patton, Deputy Chief Minister as the chief host, and Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture, along with Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA, Achumbemo Kikon, MLA, Dr Chumben Murry, Advisor to the Chief Minister, K Libanthung Lotha IAS, Commissioner Secretary, and Er Mhondamo Ovung, Chairman of Lotha Hoho, as special guests.

A press release received here said, in his address, Y Patton thanked the pioneers and present leaders of Lotha Hoho for their selfless contributions to Lotha society. He lamented that selfishness can lead to disunity and the degradation of society, emphasising the need for generosity and contributions to promote comprehensive development.

Patton highlighted the importance of community support for the successful functioning of any organisation and encouraged the welcome of developmental activities without hindrance. He stressed that a Jubilee represents a celebration of forgiveness and love, urging the community to use this milestone as an opportunity to resolve misunderstandings and foster a spirit of brotherhood. He also called for an end to clanism and the formation of numerous organisations.

Preserving local traditions and protecting and conserving wild animals were other key points in Patton’s speech. He acknowledged Lotha Hoho as a unifying force for a century and called for reflection on the past and a commitment to building a better future for Lotha society. He also emphasised the preservation of the Lotha Tribal Council building as a heritage site and offered to sponsor the cost of its preservation, the release stated. 

In his address, Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture encouraged the gathering to follow in the footsteps of their forefathers and celebrate the unity and challenges that have led to this Jubilee. Yanthan mentioned that Lotha Hoho’s pioneers and past leaders serve as role models for the Nagas, emphasising the importance of engaging with and giving importance to the society. He encouraged gratitude and a sense of direction based on good vision. He called for unity, peace, love, and forgiveness and urged individuals to take responsibility for positive change by acknowledging past mistakes.

Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA stressed the importance of reconciliation and forgiveness, highlighting the link between forgiving others and receiving God's forgiveness, leading to prosperity and peace. As the Lothas celebrated their 100-year Jubilee, Humtsoe encouraged reflection on the past and seeking forgiveness for past mistakes while aiming for positive changes in the near future.

Achumbemo Kikon, MLA briefly spoke on the formation of Lotha Hoho, formerly known as Lotha Tribal Council (1923). He emphasised Wokha’s historical significance for the Lothas and the Nagas, calling on the community to look forward with a vision and lead Naga society.

Dr Chumben Murry, Advisor to the Chief Minister in his greetings recognised the challenges early Lotha leaders faced in establishing the Lotha Tribal Council, even earning recognition from the British. Murry highlighted significant changes in the 100-year journey, particularly the impact of Christianity and modern governance. He called for unity among Naga society members and adaptation to the rapidly changing world. Murry challenged like-minded individuals who aspire for positive change to come together and work for progress.

Khyopenthung Tsopoe, Vice President, Lotha Officers Association, called for the end of any “isms” that might hinder Lotha society’s growth and progress. He emphasized the importance of choosing capable leaders and following the vision of such leaders for societal progress.

During the occasion, a special song was performed by the WTBC choir. The programme was hosted by Dr N Janbemo Humtsoe, and a Jubilee blessing prayer was delivered by Rev Sankiluma Kikon, President, LBCA. The invocation was done by Rev Fr John Ntonsi, Centre in-charge, St Peters Catholic Church, Longsa. The Jubilee souvenir was unveiled by the chief host, and a welcome note was addressed by Er Mhondamo Ovung, Chairman, Lotha Hoho.

The dedication of the monolith was led by Rev Nyanchumo Lotha, Executive Secretary, LBCA, and the unveiling was done by Y Patton, Deputy Chief Minister. Various tribal organisations of Nagaland also delivered short speeches during the event.
