13th NAP (IR) crowned champion of the 39th Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports Meet 2021

With 5 gold, the 13th NAP (IR) Battalion emerged the overall champion of the 39th Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports meet 2021. It won 10 medals in total, including 2 silver and 3 bronze. 4 of the champion team’s medals came from boxing— 3 gold, 1 silver. The unit also took the third position in the Drill competition. 

The 9th NAP (IR) finished in second place with a haul of 5 gold and 1 bronze. With a 14-medal haul, the 12th NAP (IR) had the distinction of winning the most medals, but it could grab only 4 gold and had to be content with third place. 

The 2019 champion— 14th NAP (IR) finished in 6th place with a haul of 8 medals (3 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze). 

The closing ceremony was held on November 18 at the Nagaland Police Complex, Chümoukedima, where the Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton declared the meet closed. Patton, in his address, said that the Nagaland Police is proving its merit over and above its primary job of maintaining law and order. An event like Nagaland Police Duty-cum -Sports Meet helps revive the spirit of oneness and renews the bond of fraternity among the Police families,” he said. 

While stating that sports would serve as a means to de-stress from the rigours of policing, he added that the Police Meet also serves as a platform for the families of the police personnel to showcase their talents and contributing to the welfare of the state police overall. 

According to Patton, the Nagaland Police has produced many outstanding sportspersons since the establishment of the first police station in Kohima, under the erstwhile Naga Hills district of Assam, to the first Police Meet in 1967 till today.

“And it is our earnest hope and endeavor to expose more hidden talents among the jawans through such meet and nurture them to their fullest potentialities.

He further informed that an astro turf football ground is under construction in the Police Complex, in addition to the laying of the “foundation stone” for the Nagaland Police Sports Battalion.
