Chümoukedima, September 30 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner Chümoukedima Polan John inaugurated 20 bamboo market stalls at Kukidolong, New Medziphema (Jharnapani) and Medziphema on September 25, with support from IDBI Bank.
The initiative was undertaken by the Medziphema administration to provide local farmers, producers, entrepreneurs and vendors with dedicated spaces to display and sell their products.
Speaking at the inauguration, John appreciated IDBI Bank’s support and said the initiative reflected collaboration between the district administration, financial institutions and local communities. He encouraged beneficiaries to make effective use of the stalls to showcase locally produced goods and strengthen their livelihoods.
The DC said the district administration would continue to facilitate initiatives that create livelihood opportunities and promote inclusive economic growth. He also informed that solar panels would be installed at the market sites and urged village councils to ensure their proper maintenance and upkeep.
ADC Medziphema P James Swu said the establishment of the bamboo stalls had been a long-standing objective and would provide a dedicated platform for promoting bamboo products and supporting local artisans and entrepreneurs.
IDBI Assistant General Manager Zubenthung Jami appreciated the district administration for partnering with the bank and expressed hope that the collaboration would continue through similar initiatives supporting local communities, the State DIPR reported.
Following the inauguration, the DC, ADC Medziphema, EAC Medziphema Vithwel Kweho, RO Thejavizo Nakhro and bank officials visited agricultural and allied activities in the area, including piggery, poultry, rabbit and cattle farms, it added.
