Kuhuboto, September 28 (MExN): A 50-day Guru Shishya Hastshilp Prashikshan Programme (GSHPP) on cane and bamboo craft began at Pukhato Village, Kuhuboto under Niuland district on September 28.
The programme is sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under the National Handicrafts Development Programme (NHDP) – Skill Development in Handicraft Sector (SDHS), and implemented by the Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation (NHHDC) Ltd, Dimapur.
A total of 30 selected local artisans are participating in the hands-on training, which will be conducted for 50 days from September 28 to November 24. The trainees will receive instruction from an empanelled Master Craftsperson to upgrade their skills, learn modern techniques and improve product quality.
The participants will also be provided raw materials and tools, along with daily stipend/wage compensation during the training period.
Speaking at the inauguration, NHHDC Deputy General Manager (Project) Itoka Sumi encouraged the trainees to make full use of the programme to improve their craft standards, explore market opportunities and contribute to Nagaland's handicraft heritage.
The training will be continuously monitored and inspected by officials from the Handicrafts Service Centre to ensure quality instruction and proper implementation of the programme.
