DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 28 (MExN): The Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) has directed all Producers, Importers and Brand Owners (PIBOs) of plastic packaging and Plastic Waste Processors (PWPs) operating in Nagaland to register on the Centralised Common Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Portal within 30 days. The direction was issued by NPCB Member Secretary K Hukato Chishi, IFS, through a notice on September 28.
The EPR Portal, developed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), can be accessed through the CPCB website at epr.cpcb.gov.in. The NPCB stated that the registration requirement is in accordance with the Plastic Waste Management Rules and their amendments.
It also cited Provision 18 notified through the July 6, 2022 amendment to the Plastic Waste Management Rules, which states that "Environmental Compensation shall be levied based upon polluter pays principle, on persons who are not complying with the provisions of these rules, as per guidelines notified by the Central Pollution Control Board."
