Gidemi (Phek) | December 11: A 50 year old Government Primary School, Gidemi under Phek district, is reportedly functioning with only one regular teacher at present. In this situation, a villager said, a single teacher is to handle 7 classes from A to V, for which the village has compelled to engage two private teachers. Established in 1961, the school houses 105 students at present.
A villager told The Morung Express that the school children are taught through a combine- class arrangement following the shortage of teacher in this lone educational institution in the village. Recently, GPS Gidemi celebrated its golden jubilee and it prayed to the school education department to provide at least 5 more teachers “as we are not in a position to continue the present arrangement by paying the private teachers from village exchequer.”
Vekhoyi Lohe on behalf of the Gidemi village in a representation also said “We have neither a local teacher nor any service man in education department where we have submitted our petition many times to the department yet awaiting for the department decision Vide No.ED/EL/A/1-2008-09 Pt that at least a local teacher is appointed.”
