60th Ongpangkong Mungdang general conference held

The 60th Ongpangkong Mungdang general conference was held at Town hall, Mokokchung on February 17. The theme speaker, Prof Lanusashi Longkumer, HOD, Department of Geography, Nagaland University, Lumami in his speech said that a free citizen is someone who has freedom, liberty, self determination or independence. 

He said that a society can march forward comfortably only if its citizens are enlightened and have a clear vision. However, he said that the Aos and the Nagas are highly dependent people having dependency syndrome which has brought superficial development, disillusionment and disintegration.

“Elections have now become like the greatest festival for the Nagas. We are unable to distinguish between leaders and politicians. We do not have real leaders, we only have leaders who love money, power and positions with dependency syndrome,” he remarked.

He said that in the past, the Ongpangkong Mungdang leaders have made a lot of wise decisions by understanding the truth and has worked for the welfare of the society as a whole. “We should all work towards moulding and creating real leaders and citizens who are not dependent on others but citizens who can stand and work on their own feet and we can achieve this if we believe in God and stand with truth” he concluded.

Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir and Chungtia Village Council Chairman, N Bendang, also spoke on the occasion. Various reports of the Ongpangkong Mungdang were presented. 

A new team of office bearers were also elected with Lipokmeren Jamir from Longsa Village as the new President; Lanutoba Imchen from Mangmentong village as Vice-president; Dr Rongsenchiba Pongener, Longmisa Village as the Secretary and Tekatemsu Longkumer from Kubza village as the Assistant General Secretary.
