During the head-hunting days, these two Naga villages were warring enemies and the bad blood between them remained until the year 2009 when in the name of a centenary celebration of one village, reconciliation arrived in the name of Jesus Christ and today the unique friendly relation between Chuchuyimpang (an Ao village in Mokokchung) and Longra (a Chang village in Tuensang) will remain a model of harmony.
In continuation of the renewed relation, a prominent Chuchuyimpang citizen, Moasangba Jamir was given the honor of inaugurating the village community hall of Longra village on January 14, 2011. It was not simply an inauguration programme; it was a renewal of friendship between the two villages.
Villagers say that the citizens of Chuchuyipang hunted the heads of Longra villagers and because of it there was bad blood between the two. However, on the occasion of the Chuchuyimpang Baptist Church Centenary celebration in 2009, Chuchuyimpang village leaders visited all the villages they had past bad relations with, Longra village being one. The villages decided to forgive each other in the name of Jesus Christ, and a new bond of friendship was established. The Chuchuyimpang Village Council members, officials of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang and Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang also accompanied the chief guest.
Vice President of Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry Moasangba Jamir disclosed that the Chuchuyimpang Village Council has declared in the village that any citizen of Longra village should be treated as brothers and sisters by the Chuchuyimpang village citizens anywhere in the world. The Longra Village Council, it is learnt, wanted a citizen of Chuchuyimpang to inaugurate the community hall, and approached the Chuchuyimpang Village Council in this regard.
“This friendship between Longra, a Chang village and Chuchuyimpang, an Ao village is just like the friendship between the Aos and the Chang, and we should continue this friendship,” said the Chief Guest at the formal inaugural programme.
While appreciating the friendship between the two villages, Moasangba Jamir encouraged Longra village to be in peace with others villages also. Nonetheless, lamenting the bad road condition leading to Longra (which is 55 Kms away from Mokokchung town) the chief guest underscored the importance of roads in development.
Talking about unity, peace and harmony in the village, the chief guest asserted that unless the villages are united, and live in peace with each other, then the village would not develop. He therefore pointed out that the teachers and the church leaders in the village to be very dedicated so that the village would emerge as one of the most developed villages in the Chang area.
On a political note, the Moasangba Jamir, who is also vice-president of Mokokchung district’s Naga People’s Front division, said Chief Minister of Nagaland Nephiu Rio and NPF President Dr Shurhozelie have ‘great visions’ for the Naga people. The two state NPF leaders have great concern for the development and uplift of the backward tribes. He encouraged Longra villagers to continue supporting the ‘visionary leaders.’
Also, Longra Village Council chairman welcomed the visitors. The village guards of Longra village accorded gun salute to the chief guest.
