DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 21 (MExN): The Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) today expressed sadness at the taxation being reportedly levied by Naga national political groups on the Aoyim Baptist Church building workers in Dimapur.
A press note from the ABAM Executive Secretary appealed to “all Christians to vigorously stand against this extortion and give hope to all the churches that no such hazardous activity prevails anymore.” The ABAM further said it was “disgraced and irked” at this “crime that perpetrates against Christian moral dignity” and condemned this “disrespectful act.”
“Churches under the aegis of ABAM do not enjoy the account brimful of penny, but minister by faith and with this kind of act by any section of people, the church is left precariously under threat if proper curb is not taken by the concerned administration,” the ABAM added.
The ACAUT meanwhile termed the incident as “manifestation of the rottenness that has become permissive in our present Naga society.” A press note from the ACAUT media cell said it was appalled by the “depravity that has engulfed the Naga National Political groups.” “If the greed of taxation is desecrating the sanctity of the Church, it is a wake-up call to all right thinking Nagas to ponder as to where our society is heading to,” it added, while demanding explanation from the higher ups of the groups reported to be levying the tax
