Kohima, October 31 (MExN): The Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) Clean Election Movement Core Committee amplified the message of ‘Clean Election’ during the Sunday morning worship service and seminar at Jakhama Baptist Church on October 30.
A press release issued by Kezhosato Savi, Associate Pastor, Jakhama Baptist Church stated that during worship service, the convenor of Core Committee, Pastor Atuo Whuorie brought Biblical message on clean election saying, “we children of God we are to remain as ‘the light of the world at all times.’”
He said that the initiative of ABCC on clean election is solely to bring a positive change and a brighter future. “And in order to achieve such goal it is important to educate the citizens starting from grassroots levels about the common illegal conduct during election such buying votes, demanding money from candidates, forcing clan, khel, village, and family to declare support for a particular candidate, bribe voters, political party distribute money, distribute alcohol/drugs, set up camps, feasting/picnic, using the support of anti-social elements, house to house campaign, spreading false propaganda, etc,” he stated.
During the seminar, Core Committee member Azonuo Ciesotsu highlighted on the ABCC Core Committee activities, Kepelhoutuo Chüsi stressed on the importance of involving every qualified voter as a mass movement to eradicate the illegal conduct, Pastor Sielie Pienyü stressed on the responsibilities of a church workers to stand firm and guide their church members to follow election guidelines to ensure clean election, Esabel Solo stressed on how the youth could stand firm towards promoting clean election to build a better society.
Representing the Jakhama Baptist Church, Advocate Kezhokhoto Savi stated that the time has come for every citizen to realise that one’s vote decides the fate of five years and beyond. “It is important to vote for a candidate who has genuine concern for public, honest, qualified, competent, bearing strong moral responsibility ready to sacrifice on moral ground and a candidate of having integrity, etc.”
He added, “We need a legislator who is people friendly and ready to sacrifice for corrupt-free, etc and this is possible only when the conduct of election is ‘Clean’ and the best opportunity would be the forth coming State General Assembly Election.”
