On behalf of all the members of the august House, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today expressed deep regret at the Oting incident that has led to the loss of precious lives. “Such mindless killings cannot be condoned and has been condemned in the strongest terms,” Rio said in his budget speech at the 11th session of the ongoing 13th NLA here.

He informed that the state government has already constituted an SIT to enquire into the matter, and “I intend to see that the investigations are carried out thoroughly and taken to its logical conclusion. “We are also actively pursuing with the Government of India for lifting of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the State, Rio said.

It may also be mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs have also set up a Committee headed by a Secretary level officer in which the Chief Secretary Nagaland and D.G.P are members to look into the matter, the chief minister said.

On creation of four districts
He said that the state government has recently created the new districts of Chümoukedima, Niuland, Tseminyu and Shamator. Earlier, Noklak was created.

The creation of Shamator district has also helped to resolve the long-standing conflict between the Yimkhiung and the Tikhir tribes, Rio said. “I am sure the creation of these districts will go a long way in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people from these areas, and bring the functioning and activities of the Government closer to their doorsteps for better delivery of services,” Rio said.
