Actor-director Rajiv Kapoor passes away at 58, Bollywood celebs express shock

Mumbai, FEBRUARY 9 (IANS): Late Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor’s younger brother Rajiv Kapoor passed away in Mumbai on Tuesday. The actor was 58 years old. Rajiv Kapoor suffered a massive cardiac arrest and was rushed to Inlaks Hospital by Randhir Kapoor. The doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Rajiv Kapoor made his acting debut in the late 1980s. He was known for his performance in the 1985 film Ram Teri Ganga Maili, made by his father Raj Kapoor. He was also known for his role in the 1983 film Ek Jaan Hain Hum. Popularly known by his nickname ‘Chimpu’, Rajiv Kapoor had also directed Prem Granth, which starred Rishi Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in the lead. In 1990, he gave up acting and took to direction. He also bankrolled Aa Ab Laut Chalen, starring Akshay Khanna and Aishwarya Rai, in 1999.

Rajiv Kapoor's sister-in-law Neetu Kapoor took to her Instagram handle and shared a picture of the actor-director and expressed her condolences. Many Bollywood celebs were shocked to get the sudden news, and expressed their feeling on the comments section of Neetu Kapoor’s post. While Neetu Kapoor wrote, “RIP”, Poonam Dhillon expressed her shock and wrote, “What!!!!!!” Neha Dhupia wrote, “So so sorry to hear this.” Sophie Choudry also penned a condolence note, “Omg I am so so sorry to hear this. Deepest condolences to the entire family. May his soul RIP.”
