Wokha, June 11 (MExN): As part of an institutional visit, Chairman of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Wokha, and Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, along with MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe, Deputy Commissioner and DPDB Vice-Chairman K Mhathung Tsanglao and other DPDB members, visited the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and Bailey Baptist College, Wokha, on June 10.

The delegation first visited DIET Wokha, where Principal Mhonbeni Kikon welcomed the members and presented an overview of the institute’s activities and programmes. She informed that the institute provides both pre-service and in-service training for teachers.

Highlighting the challenges faced by the institution, Kikon pointed to poor road connectivity and the urgent need for infrastructure expansion. In response, Advisor Mhathung Yanthan assured that the government would extend necessary assistance wherever required and advised the institute to maintain records of pre-service trainees to assess their placement and success rate.

The delegation later visited Bailey Baptist College, where Principal Benthungo Ngullie and faculty members received the team. Ngullie briefed the members on the functioning of the college and highlighted several pressing challenges faced by the institution.

Established in 1996 as a 75-year mission college by the Wokha Town Baptist Church, the college is currently grappling with low student enrolment, poor road accessibility and inadequate sports infrastructure.

Expressing concern over the issues faced by the college, MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe announced that he would sponsor the education of six students during the current academic year.

Advisor Mhathung Yanthan underscored the importance of sustaining higher educational institutions in Wokha and announced his support for the establishment of a library and a table tennis facility at the college. He also assured continued assistance for the institution in the future.
