Kohima, June 23 (MExN): All villages and urban local bodies (ULBs) in Nagaland have been georeferenced and digitised, according to the Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre.
The information was shared during a one-day technical workshop organised by the Centre for officials of the Directorate of Census Operations Nagaland (DCON) on June 23.
Opening the session, Senior Project Director Mhathung Kithan informed that the Centre currently maintains more than 350 map layers covering the State.
Highlighting the role of geospatial technology in Census operations, he said detailed mapping of every household can be carried out using advanced GIS tools and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). thereby enhancing accuracy in data collection and analysis.
Kithan also stated that the Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre, an A+ rated institute, is expected to become a licensed training institute for UAV drone pilots in the coming weeks.
Data Manager Sanen provided an overview of the Centre’s database, while UAV Engineer Atho-o Kesiezie showcased major projects and achievements undertaken by the Centre.
The visiting officials were also taken on a tour of the Drone Centre of Excellence, where demonstrations on 3D printing of drone parts, drone assembly and training facilities were conducted.
DCON Assistant Director, Mhathung demonstrated the use of technology in India’s first digital Census and noted that the department would require substantial technical support from the GIS Centre in the coming months.
Both departments agreed to explore avenues for future cooperation and collaboration, informed a press release from the DCON.
The workshop also featured discussions on urban and rural mapping, as well as the application of artificial intelligence in mapping and spatial analysis, it added.
