The National Highway-29 stretch from Chümoukedima through the Pakala Pahar still remains precarious for normal vehicular movement, informed state authorities on Saturday in an update.
Speaking with the Morung Express, a highly placed source within the government informed that another huge rock slide occurred on one portion of the highway (mountain side) near the old Chümoukedima Police check gate at around 4:25 PM on July 8.
Although no one was injured, the fresh incident indicated that it was still too risky to allow vehicles to travel through the road, the source maintained.
It was further learnt that certain sections of the alternate route from 7th Mile Chümoukedima Junction-Sukhovi-Pimla-Mhainamtsi-Punglwa-Jharnapani-Medziphema road needing urgent attention would be repaired for the ease of travellers.
Technical experts from the NHIDCL were also reviewing the overall landscape with the help of drone footages and a feasibility report will be submitted soon based on the observation, the source added.
As such, the state authorities have requested the public for cooperation adding: “We are also trying our best in light of the current situation.”
On July 4, a massive rockslide hit the stretch killing two persons and injuring three others.
