Dimapur, June 28 (MExN): Three top Naga students’ organizations in Dimapur today declared boycott of the 18th general conference of the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) scheduled for June 29-30 in Dimapur. The three organizations Ao Students Union, Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union and the Kyong Students’ Union issued a joint statement explaining the reasons for their boycotting the conference. The reasons implied bias and absence of fair play in the election to the DNSU.
The three students met in an emergency meeting on June 28 and discussed issues related to the DNSU’s elections. The three chief organizations said the larger interest of the ‘Naga tribal family’ was “not apparently put into practical spirit” and the three unions felt alienated from the election process, a note appended by the three unions stated. They had requested the Acting Speaker to convene an emergency union assembly but the latter failed to respond positively to the request of the units, the unions said.
“The unconstitutional decision of Acting Speaker U/A DNSU to postpone the election process without the sanction of the house, even after the election commission members tendered their resignation on June 23, 2011 through a mere information dated June 26 2011 which was unconstitutional,” the unions said in the statement.
The unions have decided to move no confidence motion against the DNSU Acting Speaker; boycott the 18th general conference and to recall the programme officials representing the three units. All member students from the three units are directed not to attend the conference.
