An appreciation of the Konyak stand on Naga Sovereignty

As an Angami Naga, committed to the Naga national rights to freedom and liberty, I wish to salute my fellow Konyaks for the very clear and firm stand declared by them which appeared in the local dailies on Dec.14, 2011.
In this connection, I also wish to reiterate that the Naga national stand for sovereignty and independence as declared before the whole world by the whole Naga nation on 14th August 1947 is a non negotiable act of history. The subsequent Indian and Burmese occupation of our God given lands is an act of aggression and invasion on the parts of India and Burma. Here, we are not begging India and Burma- who declared their independence only after us- to give us our independence. We are simply defending what we have declared before them.
I also wish to state that when some foreigners (or even individuals) have forcefully occupied our God given and ancestral given lands and fields, we do not NEGOTIATE with such an invader as to how we will share our lands and its resources with them on a fifty, fifty or thirty, seventy share of ownership. In such an illegal invasion issue, we only tell them to vacate our lands or go to a court or go to war with then in defense of our lands. The whole 62 years Indo-Naga-Burmese war is the story of that self defense war where hundreds of thousands of Nagas have laid down their lives so that we “the survivors” and “the living” of today may have a country we can call our own. God forbid that we compromise or negotiate with their blood and their tears so that we can have a “Supra state” or a “Frontier State” or a “Sccutland State” under India and Burma for our own small selfish tribal gains and benefits.
