Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): Assam Rifles apprehended two Myanmar nationals and seized around 130 grams of heroin worth an estimated Rs 24 lakh in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district, officials said on August 29.
According to an update from the PRO HQ IGAR (North), Assam Rifles troops launched an operation in the general area of Nampong on August 28 upon receiving specific intelligence regarding the movement of narcotics smugglers.
A trained Narcotic Detection Dog of the force played a key role in detecting the presence of narcotics, leading to the apprehension of the two suspected drug peddlers and recovery of the heroin. The force said the prompt action prevented the consignment from being transported further into the hinterland.
The operation highlighted the role of trained Narcotic Detection Dogs in strengthening anti-narcotics operations and detecting illicit substances, Assam Rifles said. It also reflected the force’s continued efforts to curb illegal infiltration and trans-border narcotics smuggling along the Indo-Myanmar border.
The apprehended individuals and the recovered narcotics were subsequently handed over to the concerned law enforcement agency for further interrogation and legal action. The operation reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ commitment to combating narcotics, safeguarding the border and maintaining peace and security in the Northeast, the force said.
