An army man from Nagaland passed away while undergoing cancer treatment in New Delhi on May 13. He had also tested positive for COVID-19, sources informed.

According to sources, he was admitted to the Army Referral and Research Hospital (ARRH), South Delhi last year. He was undergoing treatment for Nasopharyngeal cancer for the past 14 months.

He along with 23 other patients, who included serving jawans, veterans and civilian patients, tested positive for COVID-19 on May 5. Thereafter, they were relocated to the nearby Army Base Hospital, which is the army’s designated COVID hospital.
It was also reported that he tested positive for COVID-19 on the third test. Yet the sources said that the most likely cause of death was his underlying ailment.

The deceased was a Naik in the 1st Assam Regiment of the Indian Army. He was a native of Mokokchung district.
