Dimapur, July 15 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) on Wednesday condemned the alleged harassment of civilians by Indian security forces at TM Kasom village, Makuilongdi other nearby surrounding villages, accusing them of conducting unauthorised raids and door-to-door searches without judicial warrants.
In a statement issued by its MIP, the group also alleged the “abduction” of four innocent civilians and said the “militarization” of residential areas had turned peaceful villages into “zones of fear and control”.
The NSCN (IM) said the recent activities were a grave violation of fundamental human rights and constituted a breach of the mutually agreed Ceasefire Ground Rules, which is a bilateral agreement. “It is not an agreement giving them sole rights to act on their own whims and fancy,” it reiterated.
The group asserted that these violations were “on record” and undermined the credibility of the ongoing peace talks, while urging the Government of India to make its intentions clear whether it wanted to pursue “peace through force or peace through genuine dialogues”.
Demanding an immediate and independent investigation into the alleged violations, the NSCN (IM) also called for strict adherence to the terms of the ceasefire agreement and international human rights monitoring of the affected areas.
The group reiterated that a lasting and honourable solution to the Indo-Naga political issue should be based upon “trust and respect for each other’s differences rather than on the barrel of a gun”, and affirmed that the Naga people remained “resolutely committed to go the distance, at all costs”.
